PhD in Philology, Associate Professor, Head of the Chair of World Literature and Civilizations at Brusov State University

PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Liana Apres Safaryan studied at Brusov State University and the University of Vienna.

In 2011, she defended her PhD thesis and received a scientific degree in Philology.

In 2012, L. Safaryan was awarded the title of Associate Professor in the specialty of "Literary Studies."

She teaches German-language literature and the civilization of German-speaking countries.

She is the author of around 20 scientific studies and a co-author of several German language textbooks for public schools in Armenia.

Safaryan is a translator of German-language literature.

Since 2010, she has been coordinating the work of the Austrian Library named after Franz Werfel in Yerevan.

Safaryan is the Chair of the examination committee for the Austrian German Language Diploma (ÖSD).

Safaryan is a member of the qualification examination committees for the PhD programs in "Foreign Language: German" and "Foreign Literature."

She conducts methodological training courses for German language teachers.

She has been the chair and a member of final certification exam committees at Yerevan State University.

She has reviewed manuals, scientific articles, and served as an opponent for PhD dissertations.

Safaryan has supervised many bachelor's and master's theses.

She has presented reports at international conferences in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Georgia, and Italy, and has also participated in numerous training courses both in Armenia and abroad.

Safaryan's academic interests include:

  • German-language literature (20th-21st centuries)
  • Literature in foreign language teaching
  • Civilization of German-speaking countries
  • Theory of translation
  • Comparative studies in linguistics and literary studies.

Responsible for the Erasmus+ mobility program concluded with the German Studies Institutes of the University of Salzburg (Paris Lodron University) and the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena.

Safaryan is a member of the "Armenian Association of German-Speaking Countries' Scholarship Holders" NGO, as well as the Armenian Union of German Language Teachers and Germanists.
