LNSS 2018

LNSS FINAL MANAGEMENT MEETING AND CONFERENCE TOOK PLACE IN MOLDOVA

The final meeting and conference of ERASMUS+ LNSS «Library Network Support Services: Modernizing Libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through Library Staff Development and Reforming Libraries» Project was held on October 3-5, 2018, in the Republic of Moldova (Chisinau and Balti). The Project was funded by the European and targeted at reforming the university libraries included in the Project through the libraries` modernization and the staff professional development.

The delegation of Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences participated in the final meeting and the conference. The delegation included:

Hasmik Ghazaryan – Chief of Financial Department

Arevik Avanesova – Chief of Library Electronic Service

Armine Vardanyan – Bibliographer

Ani Shahinyan –  Coordinator of Center for Quality Assurance and Reforms

On October 3 the Academy of Public Administration, Republic of Moldova, Chisinau, hosted the official grand opening of the conference, followed by the Project participants` reports. Anna Chulyan, the Head of Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences Library, presented the report on the work done within the Project for three years, as well as dwelled upon the Project achievements and unscheduled outcomes.

Alecu Russo Balti State University hosted the second day of the conference. Anna Chulyan, the Head of the YSULS Library, presented the report «Open Access Libraries Software in Armenia».

The conference`s final day was marked by financial reporting and discussions on urgent issues. To add, the heads of nine libraries participating in the Project signed a partnership and cooperation memorandum.

XXI CENTURY LIBRARY: GOOD PRACTICES AND INTERNATIONAL TRENDS

On June 4, 2018, a conference «XXI century library: good practices and international trends » was held at the UWC Dilijan College. 
The librarians from almost all Armenian regions participated in the event.

Dr. Allen Renear, dean and professor at the School of Information Sciences at Illinois University, and Dr. Steven D. Yates, American Association of School Librarians (AASL) President, were the conference’s honorary rapporteurs. They dwelled upon the sphere’s urgent issues: «The role of libraries in preparing students for the 21st century workplaces and communities in the times of huge global changes underway » and «Plan No Cost Programming: Ways to build energy and excitement for school library activities without requiring funds». 

The following roundtable discussions were held within the conference: «Learning spaces in the 21st century Armenia» (moderator – Satenik Avagyan, AUA Papazian Library Director) and «Information Literacy and Challenges in Armenia» (moderator – Anna Chulyan, Brusov YSULS Library Head and Electronic Library Consortium of Armenia, Executive Director).

Anna Chulyan shared her experience in librarians’ information literacy training held within the frames of LNSS Project (Library Network Support Services: Modernising Libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through Library Staff Development and Reforming Libraries) and presented the training outcomes. 

The roundtable participants considered the strategy for the training continuity, the challenges the libraries in Armenia face, and outlined the prospects for further cooperation with librarians consortium members on various levels.

LIBRARY NATIONAL AWARENESS DAY AT GORIS STATE UNIVERSITY

On June 1, 2018, Goris State University hosted the participants of Library National Awareness Day. The event was targeted at raising awareness about the training modules for librarians within the frames of LNSS Project (Library Network Support Services: Modernising Libraries in Armenia, Moldova and Belarus through Library Staff Development and Reforming Libraries), as well as at discussions concerning cooperation prospects with Syunik Province libraries and Goris State University.

 

Anna Chulyan, the head of Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences Library, presented a report entitled «Digital libraries of Armenia and Access to International Academic Databases in Armenia». Upon the presentation’s completion, the participants considered urgent issues referring to digital libraries, preservation of cultural heritage books, as well as open access to academic databases and Scientometrics. 

 

Armine Vardanyan, Yerevan Brusov State University of Languages and Social Sciences Library bibliographer, held a training «Web 2.0 Technologies and Social Networks in Libraries» targeted at acquiring practical skills.       

 

The representatives of LNSS Project consortium member countries universities - Armenia, Germany, Romania and Greece - also participated in the event.

 

The interlocutors outlined and considered urgent issues, in particular, digital libraries collections in Armenia, open access for international databases in Armenia, Copyright restrictions for libraries, Creative Commons licensing, Scientometrics, etc.

 

At the end of the event, the participants disscused joint actions strategy to be implemented within the frames of trainings for libraries` staff after the end of the project.
