In 1977 she completed her study graduating with honors from Artashat N. Krupskaya Secondary School No. 1, as well as Yu. Fuchik Republican School of Young Journalists under the Department of the Union of Journalists of Armenia.

From 1978 to 1981 she studied at the Faculty of Philology at Yerevan State University.

From 1981 to 1984, having received a scholarship from Yerevan State University, she continued her education at Moscow M.Lomonosov State University (Russian Federation). She graduated from the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow M.Lomonosov State University, with the specialization in television journalism.

Lilik Zorik Stepanyan
Acting Head of the Chair of Public Communication and Journalism

Lilik Zorik Stepanyan was born in 1960 in the city of Artashat, Republic of Armenia.

From 1984 to 1998 L. Stepanyan held various positions within the editorial departments of the State Committee for Television and Radio of the Armenian SSR as a journalist, editor, senior editor, department head, editor-in-chief. During these years she authored, edited and hosted various television programmes.

Between 1998 and 2005 she worked at “Internews” Press Support NGO (currently “the Media Initiatives Center” NGO) as an editor, producer and host of the news-exchange programme “Storaket”, as well as a producer and the editor of the programme series “Such Things”.

From 1999 to 2017 she taught at the Faculty of Culture of Kh. Abovyan State Pedagogical University where she headed the TV journalism course and as an assistant professor.

From 2005 to 2007 she worked at Yerevan V. Brusov State University of Linguistics (now Brusov State University) as the founding head and lecturer at the “International Journalism” Scientific and Educational Center.

From 2004 to 2016 she taught at the Faculty of Journalism at Yerevan State University, while simultaneously was the editor-in-chief of "Shoghakat" TV, and editor of "Civilnet" Internet.

In 2008 Stepanyan defended her dissertation titled "Television Reportage: Modern Trends and Development" receiving the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences (PhD).

From 2018 to 2020 she worked at "Shant" TV as editor of the news programme “Horizon".

From 2012 to 2025 she worked as a senior lecturer at V. Brusov State University, first within the Department of Journalism, and later at the Scientific and Educational Center of Public Communication and Journalism.

In 2025 she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor.

Since September 2025 she has been working as Acting Head of the Chair of Public Communication and Journalism.

Throughout her academic and professional career Stepanyan has completed approximately 20 professional development and training courses. She is the author of six educational and methodological articles, as well of the manual "Television Reportage".

Since 1998 she has been a member of the Media Initiatives Center (MIC) NGO (formerly "Internews") and from 1998 to 2023 she was a member of its board.

In addition, L. Stepanyan is also a prose writer. Her collection of stories "Three Fairy Tales Fell from the Sky" was published by state order. Her literary works are being published on the "Granish" literary website. Numerous TV programmes and films have been produced based on her scripts. Her most recent works include the documentary films "Vanik" (2022), "Yerevan: Tumanyan Museum" (2023), "Museum Soldier: Shahen Khachatryan" (2024).
