Title: Establishment of the “HayLingvoTech” Centre of Excellence for Language and Educational Technologies

The main goal of the project is to develop technology-based education and research in the fields of Applied Linguistics and Educational Sciences in Armenia by training multidisciplinary specialists from interdisciplinary specializations combining Linguistics, Computer Science and Mathematics, Educational and Computer Science, Translation and Technology.

The specific goals of the project are:

  • to implement professional academic programs of Bachelor degree in “Computational Linguistics” and of Master degree in “Simultaneous Translation”, to promote the implementation of the newly established “Education Assessment and Testing” professional academic program,
  • to establish “HayLingvoTech” Centre of Excellence for Language and Educational Technologies, the creative activity of which will include the following directions:
  • conducting advanced research in the fields of Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Development and Testing by considering Armenian as a target language,
  • improving the most important digital tools and software for the Armenian language or developing the new ones, such as the machine translation, speech or handwriting recognition, grammar checking, etc.,
  • developing the Armenian Language Assessment Toolkit and Software,
  • to reflect the results of the research-innovative works of “HayLingvoTech” in the professional academic programs to be implemented by creating feedback,
  • to involve learners in the research-innovative works of “HayLingvoTech”, to promote the commercialization of their results,
  • to collaborate with leading foreign and Armenian universities for the purpose of joint implementation of vocational education programs and assuring the quality of educational and research processes,
  • to establish a close relationship with the beneficiary business and employer organizations for cooperative implementation of developing professional academic programs, student learning, organizing internships and creating innovative resources.

The main expected outcomes of the project are:

  • developed and licensed professional academic programs for “Computational Linguistics” and “Simultaneous Translation”, trained teaching staff, published packages of teaching-methodological materials,
  • established “HayLingvoTech” Centre and serving industrial park with the necessary equipment, furniture and software packages,
  • charter and concept of “HayLingvoTech”, selected research topics and formed teams of researchers,
  • launched research-innovative works, resources ensuring the full usage of the Armenian language in digital infrastructures,
  • revised framework of the Armenian Language Proficiency Levels, assessment toolkit and online electronic testing platform.
