Scientific-Educational Center for Journalism (FSSS)

The Scientific-Educational Center for Journalism was founded in 2004. Established as “International Journalism” Training Center of UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and European Studies, it was later renamed to “International Journalism” Scientific-Educational Center servicing the same Chair. Since 2009 it has been operating as a separate structural unit of the University. The Center was renamed to Scientific-Educational Center for Journalism in 2017. The Center was headed by L. Stepanyan from the first days of its establishment till 2007 and by A. Gareginyan from 2007 to 2009. Since then T. Hovhannisyan has been the Head of the Center.

Retaining the traditions established in the education of journalism, the Scientific-Educational Center for Journalism takes into account the media developments and the contemporary experience of the world leading universities in teaching journalism. The Center trains competitive specialists of TV and Radio Journalism, Multimedia Journalism and other areas of communication. They not only possess professional knowledge and skills but also speak three foreign languages, which is highly appreciated by employers.

The education at the Center is provided by combining theory with practice and collaborating with the leading Armenian media.

Goals: To train competitive professionals in accordance with contemporary requirements of journalism and with knowledge of foreign languages; to contribute to the development of research potential in media.

Mission: To promote media development in the Republic of Armenia through ensuring quality and competitive education.

Functions of the Center

  • carry out academic and research activities;
  • participate in the developing processes of BSU academic programs and sectoral qualifications frameworks;
  • ensure continuous professional development and training of the academic staff; 
  • create educational and teaching-methodological literature; prepare teaching-methodological manuals, textbooks, guidelines and other professional literature for publication;
  • organize students’ practical training in leading Armenian Mass Media;                                                           
  • arrange professional seminars, discussions, conferences.
