The mission of the Chair of English Translation is to carry out educational programs and research projects in the fields of English translation.

The chair implements the bachelor's and master's programs in "Translation Studies", provides young researchers with counseling, cooperates with the chairs and scientific-educational centers implementing other educational programs in the university in the scope of teaching of English communication subjects.

Inheriting Brusov's experience of theoretical and practical teaching of the English language, the teaching staff of the department actively responds to the demands of the time. New educational programs and courses on modern media technologies that are in demand are developed.

Our lecturers are actively engaged in the field of translation and participate in international exchange programs.

Our students do internships at the university's partner public and private institutions, which later become employers for many of the students.

From September 2022, with the university grant program, the chair is implementing a research project aimed at creating parallel Armenian-English language corpora. The goal of the project is to create parallel corpora of English and Armenian to provide a digital natural language processing database and environment for translation, language teaching, and broad linguistic research, designed to educate a new generation of natural language processing scientists and translators with modern translation technologies. The head of the research group is Doctor of Philology, Professor Gayane Hovhannisyan.

The functions of the Chair of English Translation are:

• To develop professional educational programs and courses that are up-to-date and meet the job market requirements;
• To prepare English communication professionals with bachelor's and master's degrees, including translators;
• To research and publish scientific works examining problems in the field of English communication and translation;
• To implement academic cooperation programs with internal and external partner organizations;
• To invest the results of scientific research into educational programs.
