The Chair has a history full of traditions. It used to be called “Chair of English” by June 8, 2007, “Chair of English (Lexicology and Stylistics)” by November 2012, and “Chair of English Lexicology and Stylistics” by January 2018. Since then it has been renamed to “Chair of English” after combining two Chairs: Chair of English Lexicology and Stylistics and Chair of English Phonetics and Grammar.
Goals:
Educational
➢ organize and provide quality education, including indoor and extracurricular activities;
➢ develop and implement differentiated modern and interesting courses that aim to ensure students’ professional;
➢ include elective courses that enhance students' creative, communicative, critical and analytical skills to provide an interdisciplinary context where linguistic and cultural competences complement each other.
Scientific-Research
➢ contribute to the scientific rating of the University;
➢ carry out scientific-research activities in accordance with the research areas of the Chair,
➢ motivate young lecturers to engage in research; provide necessary tips on writing articles and prepare reports; encourage joint research with more experienced lecturers;
➢ modernize the topics of students' research activities, assist them in their choice of topics;
➢ regularly conduct academic conventions and student scientific conferences;
➢ conduct expertise by presenting opinions on dissertations, teaching-methodological manuals, monographs, articles and other scientific works.
Administrative
➢ provide necessary conditions for training the academic staff of the Chair, increasing their qualification, and for the effective research activities of MA, Ph.D. and Doctoral students;
➢ regularly conduct scientific-educational and methodological seminars, round tables;
➢ encourage continuous participation of lecturers in qualification courses of BSU, as well as in conferences and seminars organized in different countries and research centers.
Mission:
➢ Provide English language education in line with international education standards: English as a specialty (linguists and pedagogues) and English as a second foreign language.
➢ design courses for three-tier education system (undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education) at the levels of A1-C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages(CEFR);
➢ train English language teachers, linguists and specialists with advanced knowledge of English in the above-mentioned fields in accordance with the demands of the modern labor market;
➢ contribute to the implementation of the key provisions of the University Mission, particularly through knowledge creation and transfer, as well as by the development of intercultural communication skills and capacities in the Humanities.
Functions:
➢ ensure three-tier education system of English;
➢ develop relevant methodology for teaching Communicative English;
➢ insert differentiated learning of practical and theoretical courses;
➢ design teaching-methodological packages in accordance with differentiated learning.
